What is JPI Climate

The Joint Programming Initiative “Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe” (JPI Climate) is a pan-European intergovernmental initiative gathering European countries to align national programmes by jointly coordinating their climate research and funding new transnational research initiatives that provide useful climate knowledge and services for climate action. Transnational coordination of the research base aims to overcome unwanted fragmentation, to make better use of public research and development (R&D) resources by creating synergies and to facilitate cross border collaboration between top scientists.

JPI Climate brings together more than 200 partners from 19 Member States and 8 additional countries with which collaborations have been activated in the past.

MAGICA WITHIN JPI CLIMATE

MAGICA further implements the Mission of JPI Climate to support the European research agenda (within the European Research Area) and to the European climate agenda (including the European Green Deal and Adaptation Strategy). MAGICA builds on the network that JPI Climate established over the years and many of MAGICA’s partners are also actively involved in JPI Climate. Notably, 8 MAGICA partners also sit on the Governing Board of JPI Climate and its Central Secretariat plays an active role in MAGICA. In short, although these are two separate initiatives, there are numerous points of contact and synergies to capitalize on. Moreover, MAGICA there are also synergies in terms of governance: MAGICA works as an Action Group of JPI Climate and the Coordinator is member of the JPI Climate Executive Committee and Vice-Chair of JPI Climate. The MAGICA Advisory Board is partially composed by the members of the JPI Climate Transdisciplinary Advisory Board.
