WHO WE ARE

MAGICA stands for “MAximising the synergy of European research Governance and Innovation for Climate Action” and it is a 4-year Coordination and Support Action funded under the Horizon Europe programme within the call “HORIZON-CL5-2021-D1-01-03”. The partnership brings together 24 leading climate change research and boundary organizations from 13 European countries, but MAGICA’s network extends far beyond that. In fact, MAGICA shares the main objectives of the Joint Programming Initiative “Connecting Climate Knowledge for Europe” (JPI Climate) and can count on the cooperation of all its country members. The MAGICA project operates at the heart of JPI Climate’s strategic priority of accelerating the development and transfer of knowledge from science to policy and practice within the European Research Area (ERA).

WHAT WE DO

MAGICA’s ambition is to guide future climate research. This will be done through a scientifically rigorous, democratic and open iterative process involving the strategic, scientific and social components of climate change research and innovation. MAGICA hosts an arena of dialogue to enhance the debate within the scientific community on climate research and organization (R&I) priorities that will be synthesized in a Joint Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda on climate change for ERA 2025-2034. In addition, MAGICA organizes a series of flagship events, such as the European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA), the Carbon Neutrality Forum, and the Knowledge Hub Conference on Sea Level Rise. Those flagship events include decision makers and practitioners to exchange with the scientific community on urgent knowledge needs for climate action. The Equinox Summit which takes place as the first European Climate Science Summit in March 2023 will mark a milestone to further strengthen the science policy interface as approached and supported by MAGICA.

WP1 Coordination & Management

This WP will tackle administrative and coordination measures.

WP2 Strengthening the ERA

This WP is dedicated to the strategic dimension of the project and will entail the activities of coordination among research policies and programmes across Europe.

WP3 Realizing the ERA

This WP focuses on the scientific dimension of MAGICA. It encompasses activities dedicated to building a research and innovation agenda for climate science in the ERA and to integrate the open science approach into the climate scientific community.

WP4 Science-Policy-Society Dialogue

This WP represents the societal dimension of the project. It includes activities to exchange with several stakeholders.

WP5 Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation

This WP is dedicated to communication activities that serve all other work packages.
